Community

The Central Labor Council of Contra Costa County, AFL-CIO forms deep and lasting partnerships with allies to develop local resources, strengthen communities, and build a brighter future. We work with:

  • CCLC Education Committee, working to improve educational opportunity and investment in children and young adults
  • Community Coalition for a Sustainable Concord, since 2006 the leading proponent of a world-class project for re-use of the former Concord Naval Weapons Station. More than 5,000 acres will be re-purposed for good jobs, affordable homes, protected open space, walkable neighborhoods and quality transit
  • Contra Costa Workforce Development Board, uniting employer and employee representatives to bring state-of-the-art training and technology to tomorrow’s workers
  • East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy, addressing the root causes of economic injustice such as the lack of family-sustaining jobs and the barriers to employment that leave marginalized communities behind in good economic times as well as bad
  • Labor-Environmental Coalition, working for open space, affordable homes and sensible urban limit lines
  • Monument Impact, actively engaging the Monument Community to provide training and tools for economically self-sufficiency; healthy and safe neighborhoods; civic engagement; and lifelong learning
  • NAACP East County Branch, our partner in presenting “Common Sense Economics,” a training for activists on changes in our global and local economies, and what we can do to rebuild our middle class
  • United Way of the Bay Area, and its Rise Together initiative to reduce poverty in nine counties through increased investments in education, health care, housing, and living wages
